About

The Reno National Championship Air Races are a one-of-a-kind event, the only one in the world featuring six classes of closed-course pylon racing just 50 feet about the ground at speeds that reach over 500 mph. Run by the Reno Air Racing Association (RARA), a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization that works to produce an aviation event unlike any other. Our mission is to perpetuate the most unique air racing event and aviation experience in the world by combining the world’s fastest motor sport with spectacular military and civilian air entertainment.

Over 55 years ago, Bill Stead had an idea and a dream of making an air race come to life and so, the National Championship Air Races in Reno were created. The RARA team consists of a Board of Directors, a small full-time staff and over 2,500 volunteers who work year-after-year to put together a fun, safe and entertaining event. Each year the event brings in close to 120,000 attendees to enjoy six classes of racing: Biplane, Formula One, T6, Sport, Jet and Unlimited, along with a military static display and several high speed and thrilling aerobatic and military performers to keep fans on the edge of their seats.
